it takes to get to hawaii, the earliest lawmakers would be able to return, harry reid is planning to go to hawaii, is first thing monday morning. that is christmas eve. there is really not a lot of time to bargain. it looks possible, but the politicians could be leading the government has the fiscal cliff. the question is, how the negotiation works, which is key. i think it will end up being something between speaker john boehner, mitch mcconnell, and harry reid. they will have to find something they can pass through the senate and send it to john boehner and john boehner will be able to sell that saying, these guys past it. we have to do this. until there is a deal, this is going to be a blame game of who is at fault for not finding an agreement. the house republicans cannot be stuck with it, which is what i think the statement was indicative of a. host: thank you very much for being with us here on "washington journal." let's take a look at some of your comments. first on the facebook page. let's get to your calls and comments with the fiscal cliff and sequestration. the deadline loom

in american history. how his legacy stretched far beyond his home state of hawaii. that's next jenna: well that was quick. we heard from john boehner, speaker john boehner earlier today saying he had a plan b for the fiscal cliff compromise. he would put forward legislation so that anyone earning less than a million dollars would not see their taxes go up at the end of the year. well the white house came out and officially said no to plan b. we were hering from jay carney. of course the press secretary for the president saying the speaker's plan b approach doesn't meet this test of a balanced approach because it can't pass the senate and therefore will not protect the middle class. goes on in the statement to say basically, game on. as ed henry told us come on plan-c, right? that's what we're looking for. plan a is not working out so well because negotiations are not making a lot of progress, baby steps. plan b speaker put forward today, rejected by the white house. so maybe plan-c, jon, plan-c. jon: as you wellpointed out. jenna: here going to talk a little bit more what this all means no

for the people of hawaii, every single day that he lived, in public service. his love of the state and every hawaiian was so abundantly clear through his massive list of accomplishments, overwhelming list of accomplishments, since hawaii became a state, dan had been working for it as the first congressman ever elected by that state, and only the third senator, and his efforts are clear in his state's roads, bridges, airports, schools, military bases, health care, oceans and almost every aspect of american life that reached to the islands. he played a truly momentous role in making hawaii what it is today. dan and i worked together on the commerce committee for 27 years. i was always -- felt very close to him, i remember sitting with him quietly, maybe sharing a joke when i was lucky enough to be sitting beside him. but most often just listening. he was thinking, waiting for discussion to ripen. he never once spoke just for the sake of it. yet when he did speak, watch out. i watched him a number of times, which i could well recite, when he took an argument that the commerce committee had let
